Remove the gauge cluster from the motorcycle by removing the three 5/16" hex nuts and washers underneath the gauge along with the main wiring harness plug. Refer to your model specific Factory Service Manual for more detailed instructions.
Using a phillips head screwdriver, remove the 7 screws on the back side of the gauge cluster around the perimeter.
Separate the two halves of the gauge cluster by pulling them apart. Take notice of the thin rubber gasket surrounding the inner edge of the top half, this must be seated properly when the time comes to put halves back together again.
Using extra care and patience, remove the two needles from the gauge by PULLING DIRECTLY UP. Do not apply uneven pressure to the needle in any way. Some needles will simply pull up and out with only finger pressure, some won't. If your needles do not, take two small spoons and use them for leverage. Place the tips of the spoons just under the needle base, apply even pressure on each spoon and the needle will gently slide up. Again, even pressure is key so you don't stress the needle shaft in any way.
Place your new faceplate onto the base taking note of the left and right side posts as well as the perimeter tabs that hold it in place. Each tab should sit flat overlaying the stock cover. take the extra time to cut and allow for the back-light locations for the light to transfer through for night riding or add a secondary night light to view your screen.
Reinstall each needle by gently sliding the post into the hole, make sure the needle is pointing to the correct position, then push it down into place until its seated. Check your placement by rotating the needle clockwise a bit then let it 'click back' to its base location. This is what happens when the needles sweep when the cluster gets power. Do this check process very gently, it won't take much force to move the needles.
Reinstall the top half of the cluster, secure all 7 phillips head screws around the perimeter then reinstall onto the motorcycle using your Factory Service Manual. After the gauge cluster is secure on the motorcycle, the needles will sweep when the main harness is plugged back in. Recheck your needle movement and alignment. Once buttoned up, you're ready to ride!
